Wild Smoked Salmon

Wild Smoked Salmon

Salmon is a popular food, and reasonably healthy due to its high protein and Omega-3 fatty acids and its overall low fat levels. The salmon you purchase can be farmed salmon or wild salmon. Wild salmon is caught in rivers, and is considered to be organic.

Smoked salmon is salmon, typically a filet that has been cured using salt and generally sugar and then hot or cold smoked.

Cold smoked salmon is known as “lox.” The cold smoking does not cook the fish, resulting in its characteristic smooth texture. Lox is sliced very thinly and is often served with cream cheese and/or on bagels.

An additional method of preparing smoked salmon is called Indian Hard Smoked Salmon. It is first kippered with salt, sugar and spices and then smoked until hard and jerky-like.
